The legend of the "BatCrow"

Back in 2013 when we were on the family farm our daughter loved to play on the swing set. She would swing backwards on her belly while flapping her arms shouting "I'm flying like a BatCrow!"

We don't know how she came up with this mythical creature, but it is this playful spirit that inspires us on a daily basis. We want to build a world where that spirit can thrive and that defines the passion behind our products.

Our Journey

Picture
BatCrow Farms small sustainable family farm was co-founded by the husband and wife team Derrick and Brooke Sides. Derrick, an artist and now fifth generation farmer, and his wife Brooke, an artist and avid dreamer, wanted to get back to the land after having their daughter. Cultivating a love of sustainability, permaculture, heirloom veggies, chickens, goats, turkeys, ducks and pigs they started to plan their farm while helping Derrick's parents tend to their farm animals. Luckily with the support of their family the dream became a reality. After years of raised bed gardening at their city home they were ready to harvest on a larger scale. Derrick and Brooke moved out to the country and started their business on family land with an antique 1947 Allis Chalmers tractor and some hand tools. They couldn't be more grateful for this opportunity to bring holistically raised animals and veggies to the Piedmont.

Our Farm Dreams

We aspire to have a permaculture focus on our homestead. We plan to feed our family and friends the healthiest food that can be found locally and that is grown from the heart.

Our Vision

One day we hope to start a small orchard in addition to our garden. We also plan to expand our farm with additional livestock and poultry including goats, pigs, ducks and quail. Our dreams and vision for the farm grow everyday as we take this journey. Please check back to see what is next at BatCrow!
